Bio

Coach Mike Zollweg brings extensive playing and coaching experience at every level of the game, along with a passion for developing players and helping young athletes reach their full potential.

A West Irondequoit graduate, Coach Mike was a standout high school baseball player, competing as a pitcher and outfielder. He served as team captain and helped lead the program to a sectional championship in 2000. He continued his playing career at Finger Lakes Community College and the University of Rochester as a pitcher, while also spending his summers competing in New Jersey and internationally.

Coach Mike has coached at virtually every level of baseball, from 12U travel baseball through the collegiate ranks. He helped run programs and provide instruction at Frozen Ropes in East Rochester, coaching travel teams at multiple levels while working with players throughout area school programs. He also founded the baseball program at Eugenio María de Hostos Charter School, guiding the program from the modified level to its first varsity sectional game in school history.

At the collegiate level, Coach Mike served as the pitching coach at Finger Lakes Community College, gaining valuable experience developing pitchers and preparing players for the next level. He is now in his fourth year with Pittsford Mendon Baseball, where he works closely with the program's pitchers, focusing on mechanics, pitch development, baseball IQ, confidence, and the mental side of competing on the mound.

Coach Mike's philosophy goes beyond developing better baseball players. He emphasizes preparation, accountability, teamwork, confidence, and doing the little things the right way. His goal is to help each player maximize his ability while teaching lessons that will carry with them well beyond the baseball field.

Outside of baseball, Coach Mike lives in Irondequoit with his dog, Clouse, and works as a Direct Support Professional, supporting adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Coaching Philosophy: Develop the player. Build the team. Teach the game. Create leaders.
